Luke Skywalker the Whiny Farmboy

lukeskywalker-farmboy.gifLet's face it, people: Luke Skywalker is the dumbest character in the entire Star Wars series. I'm not talking about the newer releases, because then there would be a tie with Jar Jar Binks. I'm talking about the original Star Wars Trilogy and Luke is definitely the lamest.

I'm still baffled as to how Vader could have birthed such dweeb.

Think about all the characters in the Star Wars series. There is a cult following for virtually every one of them: Leia, Vader, R2-D2, and especially Han Solo. Even the characters with a few lines are loved: Boba Fett, the Emperor, and that blue guy in Jabba's palace.

When you're sitting in a group of Star Wars fans, ask them who their favorite character is. I guarantee you that none of them will say, "Luke". Sure, there is one fan club for Luke with a total of 18 members. If you disagree with any of this, feel free to make the count a whopping 19.

Tolerating the whiny farmboy
Luke definitely has the most annoying lines and can bitch more than a guy on death row. Mark Hamill fits the part perfectly with the constant complaining. "Yoda, I don't have time for this. It's impossible. Why did Ben have to die? Oh, what are we going to do now?"

Bitch, moan, and grip!

Sadly, Luke is pretty much the center of the entire series. We've all learned to tolerate this whining farmboy, but why? We sure as hell didn't tolerate Jar Jar. There was such an uprising from Star Wars fans that Jar Jar mysteriously had a very small part in Episode II (Although Lucas denies that he did this for the fans). Why didn't this happen back in the late seventies? Is it because there was no Internet to rally the troops?

I don't know and don't care. But I believe today we can start a fresh movement to motivate George Lucas to make some changes to the original Star Wars series. He hasn't yet crystallized them on DVD, so there is time for him to make some needed changes. There are plenty of characters who could have been given much more exposure in the films. Of course, something will have to suffer and leaving out any scene with Luke Skywalker should be fine with everyone.

Who would you like to see more of in the movies? Vader? Jabba? Boba Fett?

Personally, I'd love to hear some more trash-talking from Han Solo. That scoundrel knows how to woo the ladies while looking out for number one - himself. But whatever gets the most hype, I'm willing to get behind in hopes of seeing less of Luke.

So consider this page the Official "Who Would You Like to See More of in Place of Luke in the Original Star Wars movies?" page. If we can bring up a similar uprising against Luke as we did against Jar Jar, maybe Lucas will make some changes (Not because of public opinion, of course).
