How can ANYONE like the little goody-two-shoes? You never like the really good guy. Look at Indiana Jones. He was awesome because he was much like Han Solo, a scoundrel looking out for his own hide.

Though to be honest, I found C3-PO even more annoying than Luke. I was personally overjoyed to see the Stormtroopers blast his ass in ESB. That's also why in Star Wars Galaxies, I feel an uncontrollable urge to bow the hell out of any protocol droid.

You're lost. Luke Skywalker is the perfect protagonist because he was that annoying. Vader didn't want to kill him because he was a threat to anything ... He was embarrassed of him... Now the plot makes sense. "I sense something, a presence I've not felt since..." ... damn, that annoying kid of mine is back. "Your thoughts betray you father. I feel the good in you. The conflict." ... Yeah, for the good of the galaxy, slice and dice him ... So Vader is evil because he didn't whack Luke.

Everyone who watches Star Wars loves Han Solo because that's how they'd LIKE to act. The sad truth, however, is that Luke is closer to how we really act.

I simply can't believe how anyone would say such attrocities about Luke. For crying out loud, give him a chance and he'll prove himself worthy of being the main character in Star Wars. I have to admit he started a little whiny in the first movies but we have seen him mature into one of the greatest jedi that ever lived. Forget his past whining and take a deeper look at his better qualities. He's loyal, smart, brave, determined, he learns pretty damn fast (don't forget the jedi training used to start from six months of age until adulthood, and yet he completed it in a lot less than a year), he can understand his feelings and he has self control, among other things. Plus he's really damn cute! So instead of asking for anyone else, you should ask to see a lot more about him being the bad ass he is.

Have you ever thought thats what uncle Lucas wanted? A farmboy wishing to grow up suddenly is thrown to the winds to grow up over night. Mark Hammil was perfect since he was in his early 20's.

Well, let's consider this. THE SIDEKICK USUALLY IS MORE POPULAR THAN THE HERO. With a few exceptions, like Indiana Jones, the hero is never as popular as his goofy or witty sidekick. (Come to think of it, Short Round did kinda steal the show from Indy in Temple of Doom) Except for Jar Jar, who is an annoying piece of Bantha poodoo. Come on! Luke is MY favourite character (and several my friends`) ever since I saw Star Wars for the first time. So what if we don`t put our voices into any of the Internet fan listing? I always go for a main hero.

Hello? Anybody home? Y'all have something seriously wrong with you! OK, I realize that in ANH, Luke is a bit whiney, but he matures! Everybody has to mature at some point, and once he matured, he became the most sensitive, cute, and perfect Jedi ever! In my opinion, anyone who thinks Luke is a "whiny farmboy" needs HELP.

luke is not whiny. think about it his guardians had been killed, he's thrown into this life he doesnt understand and hes naturally confused. Once Luke learns the way of the force he becomes a much stronger character and he's much more sure of himself. Luke is a great character, he may not be out there wooing all the girls and covered in muscles. But he's a hero in his own way. His character is great cause after all he is only human. Luke is suppose to be THAT annoying. He whines all the time, as is so naive, you want to blow his head off. But that's just how you like him to be, irritating and adorably obnoxious. I disagree with 'if you sit with a group of Star Wars fan' saying, most of my friends hate Anakin and prefers Luke, and I can name more Luke fans than Han Solo fans. Honestly, Luke is the only protagonist I'm able to like, he's not extraordinary or anything, hell, I didn't even know why he had that much Force in him.
