1) Posted by: PhilB September 29, 2003 11:41 AM Another free pop up blocker is "Pop Up Stopper". It's free version can be downloaded from the net as well as an advanced version with other features for some cash. I used the free version and found it very effective. I now use the one on my toolbar that came with Earthlink, which I think is the same one you are using as Google is the search engine on the Earthlink start up page. All I can say to your article is "Amen". Preach it brother!
2) Posted by: Steve September 29, 2003 4:07 PM Before Google toolbar, i didn't have time for a girlfriend... now with 8 extra hours a year, i'm in a 9 month relationship... THANKS GOOGLE!
3) Posted by: scottbp October 1, 2003 1:28 AM after reading this I got all worried that I was missing out on something so I looked on my colleagues computer (they have the whole google toolbar thing happening), but I already have everything I want from the toolbar in my mozilla. So no reason to go back to IE...
4) Posted by: clifgriffin October 2, 2003 12:22 PM Now it is on. I feel like I shall be missing out on those groovy Orbit game/ads. :(
5) Posted by: Scott Manning October 6, 2003 8:42 AM scottbp, If you are using Mozilla, there is a Google Toolbar endevour called googlebar. It's pretty slick and has some extra features that the IE version doesn't have. Scott
6) Posted by: Mo October 11, 2003 11:16 AM Or you could just use Firebird from Mozilla, which not only natively blocks the pop-ups if you want, but also a tabbed interface, mouse gesture navigation, radial menus, image blocker (as in "Block Images From This Server"), image destroyer (which will just remove the image once, and collapse the space it used!), and a whole raft of other tools. Firebird is also DOM-compliant, and hasn't had trouble rendering a website, and runs all the standard plug-ins: Shockwave, Quicktime, etc. By the way, did I mention it's fast and free? Everyone should check it out.
7) Posted by: Bad Mouth October 17, 2003 10:24 PM Gee you guys must be newbie’s, got a new toy and now your saying how much time your saving a year Bhahahahahaha.
8) Posted by: Scott Manning October 18, 2003 9:40 AM Bad Mouth, You've got some good thoughts. The only thing I would have to disagree with your on is the pop-up ads being related strictly to warez or porn sites. Pop-up ads can now be found on Hotmail, CNN, Washington Post, and Drudge Report. At the time of this comment I am posting, the Google Toolbar tells me that it has blocked 1003 pop-ups so far.
9) Posted by: Bad Mouth October 18, 2003 2:30 PM To Scott
10) Posted by: Scott Manning October 20, 2003 11:21 AM BM, This site doesn't have any pop-ups. Scott
| 11) Posted by: clifgriffin October 20, 2003 11:22 AM I've had it installed a few days. I'm up to 271. I feel like I've saved a lot of time. Why? Because I don't have to play the Orbits flash games anymore. ;)

12) Posted by: Bad Mouth October 20, 2003 1:13 PM Your right Scott
13) Posted by: Bad Mouth October 20, 2003 6:36 PM One thing I like about this site is how many idiots I can find that
14) Posted by: PhilB October 20, 2003 9:33 PM Bad Mouth-The article seems to be written with a little humor, though making a legitimate point and giving information about stopping pop ups for those who would appreciate this. Clifgriffen's comment was also written with a smile, some humor. Who really cares if it saves a lot of time, if people want to stop the annoyance, so be it; if you don't, more power to you. Please ask your mother to change your diaper so you can stop with the temper tantrum.
15) Posted by: Bad Mouth October 20, 2003 10:52 PM Well if this site was a battle ground I would love it.
16) Posted by: PhilB October 20, 2003 11:15 PM I did post about the article, but also responded to you on the level you have been responding to others.
17) Posted by: Bad Mouth October 21, 2003 12:08 AM Who are you god! An angle!
| 18) Posted by: PhilB October 21, 2003 5:31 AM BM-Actually I did mention time. That whether "it saves a lot of time" or not some may feel it worthwhile. And you set the tone by getting off subject first by not just disagreeing with someone or giving your point of view, but having to insult, or act as if others are somehow inferior to you and their opinion is not legitimate.(example: "One thing I like about this site is how many idiots I can find that can literally say GOO GOO GAA GAA"). Now that really furthered the subject. Living up to your name? Great, I get it. How impressive. But that is why I wrote to you and threw one line at you. As usual with those who like to put down and insult others, you find it so easy to give it out but are so thin skinned yourself that you whine when anything comes back to you. My apologies to you Scott for getting off topic; I felt the need to speak up about the way ideas are exchanged with Mr. BM. Sorry if it seemed rather confrontational. This will be my last post here. So in keeping with the subject: I had better go so I can save some time surfing the web with my pop-up-blocker ;)

19) Posted by: Bad Mouth October 21, 2003 11:38 AM When I found this site I realize this site needed someone to
20) Posted by: Ask Webmaster December 18, 2003 6:06 AM What about the poor website owners who provide you with the free content/articles to read/use?You are basically robbing them of income by stopping pop-ups/pop-unders. Sure, 5 pop-ups a page is annoying but what about the sites that use one pop-under per VISIT!?!? I think it is sad that people want to use other people's websites, but aren't willing to "pay the price" of seeing ads.
21) Posted by: MG315 December 28, 2003 6:52 PM heh i'm pretty sure i got some sort of virus thats messing with googles popup blocker: www.mg315.com/stuff/google.jpg oh and in response to Ask Webmaster. i understand that many free sites use popups or popunders to provide the income to keep the site running, but is it really worth it to annoy customers just to provide information without charging? there are much better ways of making money...google adsense is a perfect example. and for every site that has popups, theres 10 others a web surfer can go to without popups. Albeit the information might not be as good, but many if not most are willing to sacrifice quality to get information quickly and without annoyances. Imagine if amazon.com had 5 popups everytime you looked at a page on their site. I guarantee you their sales would drop. but this isnt meant to be an arguement on the morality of using popups, but rather a discussion on how useful popup blockers are. I don't want to start i fight, just voice my opinion.
| 22) Posted by: justask411 November 4, 2004 3:49 PM WOW THIS IS A HOT PAGE ALL THE LOVE AND WAR! I WAS QUITE ENTERTAINED! WELL NOW TO THE QUESTION. | 23) Posted by: unknown October 30, 2005 1:08 AM pop up block owners can you get rid of the pop up things on msn? |
24) Posted by: unknown October 30, 2005 1:14 AM why the fuck do you guys do this like pop up blocker thing?

26) Posted by: Nexus Mind March 19, 2006 7:56 PM 789 blocked... sounds to me like you have a bad adware problem :) seriously though I used IE as my one and only browser for about two years and it's only blocked a 124, But I've moved to FireFox now and it doesn't get pop up adds at all... period. So I suggest either running some anti-malware programs or switching to Fire Fox -NEXUS
27) Posted by: Scott March 22, 2006 11:32 PM This was over 2 and half years ago. I made the switch to Firefox a while back.
