Worst Dressed at the Renaissance Faire

Last Saturday, my wife and I went with a group of friends to Pennsylvania's Renaissance Faire. We had all been many times and I was expecting a regular day of eating turkey legs and dodging rude comments from wenches.

One of the things I've always appreciated about events like this is the amount of work people put into their outfits. It can be indimitating to stand next to a guy who's carrying a $600 axe, but it gives the event a feel of authenticity you can't get anywhere else.

Not all is perfect though. There are those who choose to screw authenticity and go nuts with their costumes.

Luckily, I had my camera and if you were caught wearing tennis shoes with your fairy suit, then you got your picture taken for our viewing pleasure.

hookerferry.jpgOne of the things I learned at the Renaissance festival is that even in the middle ages, they had goth whores.

batwoman.jpgI hear she beat out Steve Buscemi to play Batgirl in the next movie.

jester.jpgApparently, this guy's King thought his jester would be even funnier if he starved him to death.

blackninja.jpgWhen I was in first grade, my teacher went around the class and asked us all what we wanted to be when we grew up. I told her with confidence, "I'm going to be a BLACK NINJA." Little did I know that she was putting together a poster for the class that would contain all the answers.

My excuse is that I was six years old. This kid has no excuse whatsoever.

lazydress.jpgShe can fit two toddlers under that skirt and still have enough room for a canned ham.

link.jpgEven in Neverland, one's ensemble isn't complete without an LL Bean backpack.

lizardman.jpgThis embodies what is wrong with events like this. Someone shows up with a half-assed costume that is unpleasant to look at, sloppy, and doesn't even fit in the theme or time period of the event.

The guy with the red tail looks stupid too.

pandaninja.jpgThis is a perfect example of what happens when you don't plan ahead for going to the Rennassiance faire - you end up looking like you stole your costume from a chinese restaurants window display.

popcornkitten.jpgEven psychedelic, purple racoon-people dig popcorn.

wizard.jpgIt was decreed by the 2005 Wizarding Council that Nike would be the official footware provider for all wizards this season.

Harry Potter be damned.

Which one do you think is the worst? You tell us.

The one titled Lazydress. If you are going to dress poorly, at least put some effort into it.

I have to agree, I thought she had a jacket tied around her waist. She looks retarded.

Pandaninja. It makes me cry to think that someone thought "Renaissance Faire" and dressed this way on purpose.

I'm voting for Lazydress although I think the "Fubu Celt" fould have won by a landslide if there had been a good pic of him.

I vote for those who dress up as characters from Star Trek, claiming they've beemed down to a primitive planet, Prime Directives be damned.

My favorite is the woman ninja. The bandana just makes the costume!

Yes lazydress is really bad. And the funny part is she looks kind of confident. But the one titled "Link" is bad too. Couldn't he have worn tights or something? I wonder if he's wearing anything under that little green dress.

Whether or not the "costumes" suck, why not just let people have their fun?

My family and I wen to the Renaissance Faire this weekend and I was about to blog about it.

It appears you had the exact same experience that I did, so I am directing my readers to this post. Thank you; I didn't snap pictures of the people I saw (such as the Jedi knight and the various "goth whores" I saw.)
